“Discernment Bloggers”

Okay, I really don’t mean to critique Perry Noble’s blog of often, but his fourth point in his latest post made me feel uneasy.

Perry, if you are reading this (and I hope you do) please read it and just ask God if you are doing this or not–it couldn’t hurt.

Every one has their pet peeves and I concur with Mr. Noble about the cuddle worshipers.  Seriously, couples that hold hands and embrace each other during a praise time obviously forget about the Holy God they are worshiping.  Most of us cannot stand slow drivers (at least the ones who are impatient), but critiquing “discernment bloggers” for critiquing you is just hypocritical.

Perry said to the bloggers:

I don’t read their sites anymore…but they stop by here everyday, which blows my mind!  :-)  Seriously, you people REALLY need to find something to do with your time…may I suggest…

  • Getting a prescription for Viagra (you are obviously a very frustrated individual!)
  • Reaching out to people who don’t know Jesus rather than yelling at them…or thinking you are superior to them.
  • Understand that if it were not for the grace of God you would be the very person than you condemn.

Perry I agree, we should reach out to people more than yell at each other.  But I am neither yelling or condemning you just asking.  The way you present your points (especially the Viagra comment above) comes across as arrogant and prideful.  You can make your point without causing more distention.  Matthew 5:43-38.  Seriously this goes for my readers too, sharpen me so we can build each other up in Christ.

Haha, This set off a flag with me too. You keep beating me to my points. Oh well, it’s better you’re doing this.

Why do you say that?

I will attempt to discern what Perry was saying on discernment bloggers.

His first bullet point is probably not intended for all discernment bloggers I would imagine(just the ones who need to find lives outside of computer).

Second bullet point is more directed to those who criticize instead of “sharpen.” A lot of discernment bloggers will hide behind the “sharpening” doctrine, but very often use it for un-Godly reasons like jealousy, pride, legalism, and others(not saying this of you but of those Perry directs the post to).

Third bullet point is to consider how much grace we are given from God and that we should extend that to our fellow brothers/sisters in Christ.

I read his blog everyday and I think that this is just his personality to be “in your face.” He is just following the example of so many prominent figures in the Bible on that front.

Thanks for the Comment!

I agree with most of what Perry says too, but there is a point where some one is in your face (which Jesus obviously was) and doing it just to do it.

The only point that really caught me off guard was this first bullet point.

Keep up with the comments!

I don’t know if that’s what he was saying or not, but that is a good point. That’s also the reason I said it was better that you’re doing it Matt, because I don’t always offer constructive criticism in a way of “sharpening” and that’s something I’m trying to fix.
